A hero is someone who is brave enough to stand up for their beliefs. The hero in To Kill a Mockingbird is Atticus Finch because he stood up and took the Tom Robinson despite the odds stacked up against him. Atticus has a lot of courage and bravery. Former president Lyndon B. Johnson led the Civil Rights Act of 1964 during a time where minorities were often treated poorly. President Johnson acted very brave when he pushed for this despite receiving death threats and the possibility of losing voters. Although he was tormented, it took great amounts of courage to take
a stand and push for the Civil Rights Act. “Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose,” in this quote LBJ is showing the courage he has. In the same way, Atticus took the Tom Robinson case while working with threats against his family. But he continued to fight for the cause. In To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus is a hero because he stood up for Tom Robinson. He stood as Tom’s only hope. The setting and time period greatly impacted this due to the discrimination against all minorities. Despite threats and hate Atticus stood with Tom. Some people might say that Atticus was forced to take Tom’s case because he did not want to set a bad example for his kids and did not want to seem like a coward.While this may be true Atticus still stood true to what he started and gave his all in the case. I wonder why Atticus did not act very sad after the case. He reacted very passively and sort of just went along with his life. I think this may be because he did not want to show his kids that he was weak and wanted them to look up to him as a strong person.
