In The Odyssey, many people might say Odysseus is the hero or that he is the Villon, but in my opinion Odysseus is the hero. Odysseus had to leave behind his new born son, Telemachus and his wife Penelope to go fight in the Trojan War, Odysseus had been gone for approximately 20 years.…
I believe that Odysseus fits the stereotype when it comes to following the man box. I say this because he does cry but he also doesn’t back down from a challenge. Odysseus is weeping on the island of Ogygia and showing his emotions. The book picks up when they “found him there on the the head land, sitting still, weeping, his eyes never dry.”(Book 5 line 167) This quote shows that he is not listening to the ingredients that are in the man box, which is to never cry and express his emotions. He does show that he is a superior man even after being beat up by the waves. He shows that he’s not afraid and he will stand up to challengers “ up he sprang, cloak and all, sized a discus, huge and heavy, more weight by far than those.”(Book 8 line 216-217)…

Odysseus was definitely courageous in The Odyssey. Odysseus’ actions are important because they demonstrate how a small act that is spur of the moment can save many people’s lives. For an act to be courageous, it must require extreme danger to the individual. Defeating Polyphemus was definitely dangerous…
The Odyssey is one of the most famous ancient Greek epic poems written by Homer. It tells an adventure and struggle of the main character, Odysseus, trying to get back home to Ithaca from Troy. In this epic, Homer portrays Odysseus as a hero. However, in my opinion, he is not a hero because he received too much help from the Gods, did not protect his men, and was selfish at times.…
In “The Odyssey”, Odysseus is a hero because of how he got all the suitors out of the house. I believe that he is a hero for that because of the way that they just moved in and tried to marry his wife. Also that they were eating all of his animals fruit and other things also that they were drinking all of his wine. They were also mean to his servants and to son which made him mad at them. Then when he came they did not know and they were treating him like that he was nothing and that he should die. So that is the reason why he had to kill all of the suitors.…
Odysseus is a hero. How is Odysseus a hero? According to Google, a hero is “a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.”. In the Odyssey, I saw Odysseus as a hero because he was patriotic, humane and dexterous and there are a few times I see these qualities in the Odyssey. In this essay, I will discuss how Odysseus revealed his valiant and lionhearted ways throughout his long-lasting, venturesome journey.…
What makes a hero a hero? The ancient poem The Odyssey, written by the epic poet Homer, tells the story of a man by the name of Odysseus and his travels home to Ithaca after being at war in the Battle of Troy for nine years. Odysseus encounters many challenges and obstacles through the many adventures that he faces on his way home. His challenge concluding the story is of finding a way to rid the suitors that pillage his kingdom in order to retrieve his position back as lord and husband to his wife, Penelope. As Odysseus went on many adventures, he displayed the qualities of cleverness, bravery, and vengeance.…
Odysseus: a hero in every way. He is a real man, skilled in the sports, handy with a sword and spear, and a master of war strategy. Most of the challenges and adventures in his return voyage from Troy show us this even if we had no idea of his great heroic stature and accomplishments in the Trojan war. I found in my reading of the Odyssey that most of the trials the gods place upon him are readily faced with heroic means. These challenges are not…
Odysseus is the hero that appears in The Odyssey, Homer's epic about Odysseus’s 10 year struggle to return home after the end of the Trojan War. In this epic, Odysseus battles mythical creatures and endures the wrath of the gods. All while being the epic hero of the story. Being the protagonist of this epic, Odysseus has many qualities that make him the hero.…
In The Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as a true hero as he has led and survived a rigorous journey. To be a hero one must be admired for one’s nobility, achievements, and courageous character. Odysseus was a true strong hero as he was one of the first heroes ever to be put on a journey and make it through many obstacles on the way. Throughout the journey, Odysseus was first put in a rigorous War in Trojan which lasted over 10 years, then had to overcome creatures way stronger than a human, task that were extremely difficult to overcome, and finally return back home to his people of his town.…
We all know who a hero is, right? The person who saves the day and is willing to risk their life and does nothing but good in the world. The Odyssey is about a man named Odysseus who encounters many mythical creatures on his way home to Ithaca, and those creatures try to stop and kill Odysseus from getting home. He then lands on Calypso’s island where she keeps him captive for 7 years until Hermes orders Calypso to let him go. When Odysseus finally gets home, he and his son Telemachus destroy the suitors that invaded his house while he was gone on his journey, and is finally reunited with Penelope after being away from home for 20 years. Odysseus is not a hero because he isn’t selfless, does not go above and beyond in…
What is a hero you may ask? Merriam-Webster states that a hero is a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability; an illustrious warrior; a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities; one who shows great courage; the principal male character in a literary or dramatic work; the central figure in an event, period, or movement. I could support Merriam and say that Odysseus fits many of these descriptions and characteristics. In the words of Margalit Finkelberg:…
Odysseus, the guy who poked me in my only eye, has been fighting for ten years in a city called Troy. When he finally finished, the gods were angry and sent a huge storm in the sea their way.…
