The Cider Tax American Colonist

First, the debt of the British had doubled in a short time. The Cider Tax had proved highly unpopular and many people were getting eager to removed it. Britain was also running short of credit with banks. In order to curb spending the British government believed that further attempts to tax the homeland would fail. They decided to seize
Opportunities for income such as taxing the American colonists in order to pay for the army protecting them. Before the war started most of the colonies had directly contributed to British custom revenue. According to Robert Wilde It appeared to the British government that a few new taxes to pay for their garrison should be easily absorbed

This resulted in Britain being responsible for almost two million people in the American colonies and sixty thousand in Canada. Britain had to think about economic responsibilities as well as protect all the colonists from different groups of Indians. This would be costly plus the money already spent money sending troops and material to the colonies to fight the French and Indian War. Britain believed the American colonists should now help pay for that war.

Third, the payment of high taxes by the British government was due to more than reasons. Two reasons are that they wanted to show the colonists that they were in control and because of their money problems. Due to their big debt after the war Britain thought the colonists should help pay of some of their debt. The colonist might have agreed but they were upset that the King and Parliament had taxed them without their consent. They wanted to vote about their own taxes like the people in Britian. However, the colonies were not allowed to send representatives to parliament to speak for them.
