When I was in first grade, my mother finally relented and bought my sister a dog, a tiny, black Cockapoo puppy she named “Pepper”. Allison had wanted one for a long time and her pleas were duly noted after she tried to bring our cousin’s dog back to Maryland with us. The tantrum on the way home when her plans failed was the tipping point. A year passes and my mother loves Pepper so much so she wants another dog.
