Before meeting her children her Pa was approached by Nettie’s (Celie's sister) boyfriend, he was asking to have Netties hand in marriage. Pa refuses saying that Nettie is too young to be married off and then offered up Celie. Though it took Mr._____ a time to decide on whether he would wed Celie, he finally gave in and Mr.____ and Celie were wed. Their marriage was nothing different then Celie and her Pa’s relationship. Mr.___ was abusive and would force Celie to have sex to him. Though all the trouble that Celie endures she found hope in a single photo of a singer whose name was Shug Averi. Celie had a fascination to Shug to the point that it was almost unhealthy. One day she finally met her little piece of hope, Mr.____ brought Shug to the house due to health problems. Shug was very sick and rude to Celie. Though Celie was assigned to take care of Shug, Celie savored every word and moment she had with Shug. Them being the relationships between men and women, within the women's community, and the relationship between people, god, and nature. She explains that in the beginning of the book the relationships between opposite sexes were strongly opposed and oppressed, as there was as little communication between men and women, for the reason is the men felt they had to dominate the female through brutality. As seen as Mr.____ wanted to marry Shug but in the face of his father he is forced to marry another and abuses her because she is not Shug. Or as seen as Harpo tried to resemble his relationship to the one of Celie and his father. And, this type of relationship is also shown closer to the middle of the book through the Olinka tribes of Africa. Seen as the women of the tribe can only gain the title of wife and mother, they are oppressed in the sense that they are to stay home and take care of the husband and kids. Thought the relationships between women are in my chosen opinion are worst as described by the writer as full of jealousy and alienation. This is shown through Shug flaunts her relationship with Mr.____ to Celie. Or in another case the alienation through women is cased by the men as seen in what the writer says is the most basic example of alienation between women is when Mr.____ hides the letters from Nettie.
