Elephant - Thought the Book Shug has Elephants in her room almost everywhere. This often reminds Celie of Shug. Elephants are a symbol of Shug herself. Elephants are describes as social animals. (While Shug is very social thought the book.) Male Elephant are a different story. The young male elephants spend most of there time learning about other elephants before getting to close with them. Shug at first didn't like Celie. On page 49 “She says hatefully what you looking at”. As the male Elephants grow older they start to want love. Shug starts to love Celie and eventually moves in with each other. On page 211 “Shug’s house is big and pink looks sort of like a barn”. While Celie is with Mr._____ she always wears dresses. She's either in her cleaning dress while she is taking care of the house or wearing her dress when they go out or she has company. Its not until Shug comes that she tries on a pair of pants. When she does wear the pants she more confident not only as a women put as a individual. She eventually makes, sells, and wears pants.
