It is clear that from his statement, Holden was greatly affected by his brother’s death; as it traumatizes him to a point where he it affects his mental state. Throughout the beginning of the novel, Holden constantly reminds the reader that though his physical age is sixteen, he still acts like a thirteen year old. By acting younger than he really is allows Holden to reminisce the short yet joyful time that he had spent with Allie when he was still around. In Destination Nowhere, the situation that Cal has with her daughter is quite similar to Holden and Allie’s relationship. Cal and her daughter Chloe were very close with each other, but it was due to an unfortunate incident where Chloe got kidnapped and was murdered. Her daughter’s death had affect Cal so tremendously, anyone who insulted Chloe in any way or form would cause Cal to find ways to physically hurt those who dishonoured her daughter as a way of not tainting the "perfect image" that she has of her daughter in her head.
