Arresting and punishing traffickers is critical to stopping the problem of human trafficking, but however, governments have been neglecting prevention as well as protection and compensation for victims. Victim-centered measures take a vital role in fighting against human trafficking. According to Nisha Varia, “However, too many governments, international agencies, donors, and civil society groups have pursued a criminal justice response to forced labour and trafficking, while neglecting prevention as well as protection, compensation and survivor rehabilitation” (Nisha Varia). Many governments and social groups attempt to only convict traffickers and ignore the victims, or not give the victims as much help as they need. Governments also ignore protection for those who could become victims of the human trafficking trade. This can ultimately be a harmful approach to the trafficking situation because as a result, it ends up neglecting the victims of the act of trafficking and doesn’t help protect people from the threat of being …show more content…
For example, helping victims to speak out, giving money to victim rehabilitation, and giving traffickers and pimps more severe consequences will help fight against human trafficking. Some of those who traffick humans have been able to get away with no consequences which can give the idea that human trafficking is a crime that someone can get away with. Human traffickers who don’t believe they will get punished also tend to hurt those that they trafficked in the past. Governments and social groups furthermore only think about convicting those guilty of human trafficking and sometimes neglect funding for human trafficking victim rehabilitation and protection measures against human trafficking. In conclusion, convicting criminals of human trafficking and helping those who were trafficked can help end the trade of women, men and children being torn or tricked from their homes and forced to perform sexual acts and work
