Many a times we are confronted with the issue of the superiority the constitution and ethics. This raises hot debates among participants in the academic field. What is the benchmark for determining ethics? , Is ethics the same as moral? , What is in the constitution that makes is stand tall among other laws in the country? This piece seeks to answer some of the issues raised above.

Law
A law is defined as a rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as binding or enforced by a controlling authority. Thus a law is a body of official rules and regulations, generally found in constitutions, legislation, judicial opinions, and the like, that is used to govern a society and to control the behavior of its members.(i)
Governments enact laws to keep society running smoothly and to control behavior that could threaten public safety. For instance Laws has also been used as a mechanism for social change; for instance, at various times laws have been passed to inhibit social discrimination and to improve the quality of individual life in matters of health, education, and welfare.(ii) Laws are considered the minimum standard necessary to keep society functioning. Enforcement of laws is made possible by penalties for disobedience, which are decided by a court of law or are mandatory as written into the law. Penalties vary with the severity of the crime. Lawbreakers may be fined, imprisoned, or both. Sometimes lawbreakers are sentenced to probation. Thus what laws seek to achieve in the society is to control the behavior of people in the society.
Laws cut across every activity of human endeavor. This implies that different laws exist to control the behavior of man in every aspect of life as a result we have common law, natural laws etc. Although the main purpose
