The Larger states had a bigger population when they added slaves, they would have more votes than the smaller states. The larger states like the Virginia plan because it was favoring the larger states. The New Jersey plan also William Paterson favored it. Federalist were people who wanted to ratify the constitution. The federalist wanted a stronger central government so that it has more control over the states. The articles gave the central government with very little power so they want to ratify it. The important Federalist were John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton. They were Strong supporters of the Constitution . They wrote an 85 page essay in the New York newspaper to get New York citizens to ratify the constitution.
