Winston had finished helping Mrs. Parsons fix the sink when her children attacked him, obviously indoctrinated by the Party’s ideas. Children would join organizations such as the Spies to discover those living a life of unorthodoxy. Orwell’s allusion to Hitler Youth emphasizes a world similar to Germany during World War II, where children are to succeed the current generation and continue living in the twisted ideals of brainwashing. This demonstrates the power that people have when the youth are in full support of them. Winton and Julia have just been caught by the Thought Police in a room above Mr. Charrington’s shop. The Thought Police enter the room through the window, breaking items in their path, beating Julia and carrying her out of the room. Orwell’s allusion to Gestapo serves as a warning that a much feared police force can abuse their power to an unhealthy extent. Also, they single out the people who don’t fit in with the rest of society and just like the Gestapo, lie about the arrestee’s status by telling the rest of the citizens they are dead when they are merely brainwashed. Having the Thought Police everywhere causes everyone to watch and turn in other people in order to keep themselves safe. Orwell intends to show governments the dangers of a ruling police force that is everywhere and creating fear in the hearts of all
