law. This simply isn't true, but many people believe that's what gun control is. The weapons that are targeted by law makers are over-the-top dangerous and weapons that can be easily hidden by most people's standards. The official term for this is "semi-auto assault guns". In addition, magazines with considerably large ammo counts were banned. To understand the banning of these types of firearms, you must first understand the background. This ban on these types of guns start in 1989 when 34 children and a teacher were shot in Stockton using an AK-47 assault rifle. Later in 1993 the "California Street Shooting" also contributed to the ban. The shooter used a TEC-9 to shoot 6 people. The TEC-9 is fairly small and easy to hide, while considerably dangerous at the same time. In 1993, former presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan proposed to the U.S. House of Representatives to support this ban, and as evidence they used a CNN poll. The poll discovered 77% of Americans also supported the ban on these weapons. Considering that big percentage, it's clear most Americans agreed with the ban at the time. Four laws that effected the restrictions and use of firearms was the second amendment, the gun control act of 1968, shotgun/rifle ban in District of Columbia in 1976, and the July 1977 policy in District of Columbia. The second amendment is one of the most important assets to the debate of gun control. As stated before, it is one of the largest causes of controversy and people from both sides of the debate use evidence from it to support their claim. The second amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed". The way the message is delivered can be vague and people are unsure what it completely means. For people that are against gun control, the term "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". They use this to prove that the government has no right to infringe or restrict people's rights to own and utilize guns. On the other hand, people who support gun control also have evidence from this amendment. They can use the line "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state". They can use this line to argue that owning guns was only meant for security and militia purposes only. Another significant law in history revolving around gun control was the "gun control act of 1968" . This law gave
