During the years 400-600, the kingdom border changed by cause of these wars. During this chaotic turbulence, the church stood by Rome and helped them get through the war by providing safety and strength. A Germanic tribe named the Franks took over the entire Germanic tribes, led by a strong leader by the name of Clovis. The Franks controlled a big part of Europe. Charles Martel, the mayor of the palace, expanded regions in the north, south, and eastern parts, thereby defeating the Muslims.…
When discussing the importance of Spanish alliances, it is important to discuss Matthew Restall’s interpretation of “the myth of the white conquistador”. A common myth in regards to the Spanish Conquest is that the Aztecs were conquered by a small group of white Spanish men. Within Restall’s book titled “Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquest”, he debunks the myth of the white conquistadors. Restall’s argues that “there is no doubt that the Spanish were consistently outnumbered by native enemies on the battlefield. But what has so often been ignored or forgotten is the fact that Spaniards tended also to be outnumbered by their own native allies. Furthermore, the invisible warriors of this myth took an additional form, that of the Africans, free and enslave, who accompanied Spanish…

In the article by Jay Nordlinger, entitled “Bassackwards: Construction Spanish and Other Signs of the Times,” the attitude is one of lashing out. Giving a prime example of what is later referred to as cultural defeatism; the article explains some things such as Construction Spanish. This is one of many examples given in this article showing the ways that Americans have begun to accommodate for immigrants by changing themselves.…
The French, Spanish, and English all tried to colonize the Western Hemisphere. The French colonization in America started in the 16th century, and continued through centuries as France created an empire in the Western Hemisphere. They founded most colonies in the east of the U.S.A, and many Caribbean islands. The English were one of the most important colonizers of the Americas, and had a rivalry with the Spanish. The English began colonizing in the late 16th century and came out on top when all their colonies were built through America. The Spanish conquered most of the Western Hemisphere, and their colonization attempts were started by the Spanish conquistadors. It all started with Christopher…
_Myths of the Spanish Conquest_ is broken into seven chapters, each dedicated to a different myth or mis-conception regarding the Spanish conquest. In debunking these myths, Matthew Restall works with three themes regarding the conquest. First, that the European discovery of the Americas was one of the greatest events in human history. Second, that the conquest was the achievement of "a few great men," which he subsequently describes as "a handful of adventurers." These two themes lead to a third theme, or question. "If history's greatest event - the European discovery and conquest of the Americas - was achieved by a mere "handful of adventurers," how did they do it?"…
When empires expand, they all have a plan in mind on how and why they want to expand. It can differ from religious, wealth, or power reasons. It can also be with areas surrounding them or land far away. Simultaneously, empires can use similar military techniques, ways of keeping people in order, or ways of keeping up the economy. During the time of 1450 to 1800, the Spanish Empire and the Ottoman Empire responded to their empire building similarly in the idea that spreading their religion was their first focus, while there were differences in their social and economic values because their regions required them to be that way.…
Within fifty years of Christopher Columbus discovering the New World, the Spanish empire had gained almost complete control of Central America and the majority of South America. Furthermore, the Spanish controlled large portions of southern Europe, including much of Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands. The success of the Spanish empire began its gradual decline in the seventeenth century. Many factors contributed to the ultimate demise of the Spanish empire, but the main cause of the fall of the empire was Spain’s poor economic decisions. The Spanish government delegitimized their currency, overextended their empire, and created an army that they could not financially maintain all within the seventeenth century. Additionally, they continued to get involved in…
It was a time of prosperity and a conversion of religions. Muslims and Jews were not accepted in Spain during that time. They were often expelled from the country or forced into conversion. Wars broke out amongst the Muslims against the Catholics and often turned into bloody battles. Both sides faced defeat and victory, but in the end, Spain had the most control. That time period was not a good time for anyone who was not Catholic.…

Bullfighting has been a topic of controversy in recent years, due to people speaking out about the unethical slaughtering of innocent animals exploited for entertainment purposes. Spaniards see this act as more than just as a sport, and how it is a major key to their culture. If one were to seek the prime areas of bullfighting, it will be found in the following cities of Spain : Sevilla, Cordoba, or Ronda.…
In 1492, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II conducted a terms in which Muslims are allowed to preserve their mosques and religious institutions, to retain the use of their language and to continue to abide by their own laws and customs. But within seven years these terms had been broken. The Moors, the descendants of the Muslim population, were given a choice between to convert to Christianity or exile. For the majority, baptism was the only practical option. So the Spanish Moors became the “New Christians” and subject to the jurisdiction of the Inquisition. The moors had to abandon the Arabic language, uncover their faces, and forced to let their doors opened.…
Between 1500 and 1700, North America became a destined land for European settlers. While in some instances, the Indians of North America had to fight the invaders; overall it was the first time in history they Europeans and Indians were brought together for the first time. The Indians played a crucial role in the establishment of the European colonies through trade, alliances, and warfare. It is with their role and the interaction with the European settlers that would bring about a shift in each culture that would change the course of history.…
Religious and cultural difference were part of the landscape of America as European settlers trickled in. The Colonization projects of all the European settlers, though similar, also varied in different aspects. When looking at the French and Spanish settlers we can compare and contrast motivation for exploration, roles of religion, and trade during the development. All of these things shaped the path for the land we live in today. Specifically I will address, Spain’s desire for power/money vs. France’s need to expand their fur economy, Spain’s surge for Catholic conversion vs. France’s hope for mutual benefits, and France’s fur trade focus vs. Spain’s Indian dependent natural resource trade industry.…
