The Crucible John Proctor Conflict Analysis

In the Salem witch trials, hundreds of people were killed due to suspicion of witchcraft. In the book the crucible by Arther Miller a big concern for most readers was: who had the most conflict. Throughout the book many characters had disagreements with others. As people argued they eventually came to a point where people were accused of witchcraft and could be killed for it. Some people say John Procter had the most conflict and Abigail didn't because she was a bad person, but I believe even though she is bad she still had the most conflict. Despite others being in conflict, Abigail had the most conflict because she had to worry about who gets hurt in the situation and getting caught lying. She goes through plenty of trouble trying to escape from these things. Stress is on Abigail because he doesn't want her heart to be broken by John. She still loves John Procter but doesn't know if John is willing to leave Elizabeth for her. She doesn't not want her name ruined because it could cause problems for her. When John tells her he will publicize the affair she tells him "Never in this world! I know you John - you are secretly this moment singing hallelujah that your wife hang". She doubts he will tell about the affair and ruin his name. If John does the court would think of her as a sinner and won't believe her. In court John does confess and Abigail is questioned, she says "If I must answer that, I will leave and I will not come back again". Here she shows she fears being caught and tries to leave.
