The Crucible Movie Analysis
“ I will fall like an ocean on that court! Fear nothing, Elizabeth.” - John Proctor, “The Crucible” pg.45. John Proctor tells his wife, who is accused of witchcraft, that he will not stop until he frees her. This can be compared to the Majestic, Peter Appleton, the main character in the movie, was accused of being a communist. He was driving after he was told he was blacklisted. He crashed his car into a river, he lost all of his memory and washed up in a small town. The people in the town thought he was a soldier, who was lost in the war. He took up a alias of Luke Trimble. I think that the story the Crucible is comparable to many parts of the movie, the Majestic.

The theme is that they went through a change of perspective, that help or hurt them in a monumental way. The turning point of the Crucible “ Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul, leave me my name!” -John Proctor (pg 90). John realized that he has been in his eyes cheating his way through life. A similar part of the Majestic is, “ I never never saw the percentage in it...and quite frankly, I supposed, uh...lacked the courage. See, I’m not like Luke Trimble. He had the market cornered on those things. I never met the guy, but I feel like I’ve gotten to know him. The thing is, I can’t help wondering what he’d say….if he were standing here right now. You know, I think what I think he’d probably tell you: the America represented in this room.. is not the America he died defending”- Peter Appleton (The Majestic). John Proctor and Peter Appleton changed not by themselves but by an outside source. Example of this is how, Peter Appleton was changed by ideas and thought of Luke Trimble in the letter given to him from Adele. In the Crucible, John Proctor changed his mind from all the people hung before him, who had not lied even though their lives were on the
