The Crucible
The movie the crucible is based upon a play that was written by an author by the name of Arthur Miller. The movie is based around the Salem witch trial which took place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Where a bunch of young girls in the community of Salem had just simply went into the woods with an African American slave woman named tituba to create a love potion for young men to fall in love with them like any other normal young girl might think would just be fun. The girls were then seen dancing naked in the woods by reverend parris which happens to be one of the girl’s uncle and this is pretty much where all hell broke loose in Salem. (The Crucible 1996) As the movie goes on it goes on to show that all the girls that were in the woods dancing naked then start accusing others in the town of being witches. The girls seem to get out of being condemned as witches because they blame tituba for putting a spell on them. The main girl in the movie known as Abigail Williams had been sleeping with a man John Proctor. After a while of accusations she then starts to accuse John Proctors of being a witch too. This was

Just simply because Abigail wanted his wife to die so that she could be with Proctor and not his wife. (The Crucible 1996) In an effort to save his wife from being hung he then gets his house made Mary Warren who was one of the “affected” girls in the movie to testify that all the accusations were false, and that there really were no witches in Salem. Also another farmer in the community name Giles Corey who had the name of the person who a had accused and a woman in the town of being a witch, but he refused to give it up. They eventually arrested Giles Corey and through him in jail. In the end the only effort for John Proctor to save his wife was for him to say that he himself was a witch and that his wife was not.     In this film a group of girls go dancing in the woods with a black slave named Tituba. They see that they have been caught by the local minister and one of the girls falls into a coma. The girl is rushed to the village and puts everyone at worry. Parris tries to calm everyone down they gathered were the girl was kept. Abigail the main girl from the clique talks the girls into admitting they were just dancing in the forest nothing else. John Proctor, a local farmer, hears about what went on in the forest. He also was working for John and his wife Elizabeth, but after she found out Abigail and her own husband were having an affair she quickly fired her from that job. In the movie you can tell that Abigail still wants to be with John but john refuses to commit another foolish act. One day Betty wakes up from her coma and begins screaming. Everyone rushes in and wonders if she was bewitched. Since her parents died and left her, they left her money and land deeds obviously they were going to say that she had been bewitched to get rid of her so that they can take her property. Reverend hale begins growing suspicious of the whole situation and speaks to tituba. Tituba then confesses to communing with the devil, and say that she has seen the devil conspiring with other townspeople. Betty joins them and starts naming witches. Elizabeth knowing all of the killings were not true, she tells her husband to denounce Abigail as a fraud. When her husband refuses to do so Elizabeth becomes very angry and jealous and accuses his of still having feelings for her. Soon Elizabeth is accused of witchcraft and is arrested and taking to court. Elizabeth encourages John to take matters to justice and accuse Abigail and the girls of fraud.
