Summary:
In around 3500 BC according to archaeologists was the birthplace of civilization at city called Sumer located at lower Mesopotamia which is now known as Iraq. Mesopotamia is located at the delta of two rivers known as the Tigris and Euphrates that is why it is also called the "Land Between Two Rivers". Mesopotamians introduced to the world numerous tools that we use in our daily life. Some of them were the wheels, sixty-minute hour, 360 degree circle and the codes of law. It is also believed that they formed tyranny, terror and brutal aggression. Throughout the time of Mesopotamia, city-states battled with each other to gain supremacy. Thus, the first empire emerged. It discusses the origin of Iraq and how did civilization started. On the first part of the article, I felt that it did not quite interest me much because I was expecting more of it. I thought it was quite boring. I thought that the first part lacks details compared to the other books I have read. The first part was boring but after pages I have turned I have started to get interested on it. The details became deeper and now it is more fun to discover the foundations of Iraq. Some of my favorite parts of the article were first when it discussed about the royalty of ancient Mesopotamian queens. I was overwhelmed how extravagant those queens were and how rich they were. Those precious stones and treasure were magnificent and beautiful and I can't imagine what would be its worth today but I think those are priceless. The second part I likes was the timeline of Mesopotamia together with map. This part explains deeply the progress of Mesopotamia together with the map. What I liked about it is that it was more simplified and organized that's why I was interested on it. Together with the map, it was a good summary. But the most exciting and interesting part for me is that when they illustrate pictures. This for me is the best part of the experience because personally I think that telling the story of Iraq in words only is not enough. I thought that putting pictures is the icing in the cake. I liked the picture on the queens body with the ornaments around her. It shows how rich the culture of Mesopotamia is. I also liked the bronze mask of King Sargon because it was so artistic of
