The Crucible Theme

The theme of The Crucible was very meaningful and powerful.. The way it came about was by thinking of the main problem in the play. Then choosing the topic from there. Overall, the play talks about witchcraft.. Overall it just sort of factored out. Also a lot of the characters were battling each other lot. That kinda factored out the theme choice as well.. It was not based on something that was not in the book. So the theme is ‘Never Let One Thing Lead To Something Bigger’.
The reason for choosing this theme was because of the many small things that lead to another. In the play the girls got caught dancing. It lead to witchcraft later on in the play. Abigail was the main one of the group that got tested for it. So that problem lead to an even bigger one. Everyone was being tested in the court. The girls started saying people were doing things to
them in court. Everyone in the village was coming to see the trail. That is one possible reason behind the theme that is stated.
The second reason being so many were accused. It lead to a bigger problem of them having to go before the court and testify Some got sent to jail for not testifying. They should have just told the truth the first time. They should not have kept risking their lives. Some even died in jail. Of the ones that went some said they did nothing. Others wanted to go so their spouse did not have to suffer. In the case of Proctor and Elizabeth both of them went. They left their sons for a long time. It must have been really hard knowing both parents were in jail. Since both were being accused of stuff they had to go.
The third reason was when Proctor and Parris got into it.
It lead from one thing to something bigger. They asked why Proctor did not go to church. He said he did not believe in what Parros had to say. He would rather work in the fields. Everyone should go to church. they do not know what they are missing when they don not go. With Proctor staying at home was more important to him. He could work and get things accomplished. Never did he have to worry about going to church and being confronted. That is how Proctor felt during this time.
Overall the theme really tied in well with the story. There was many more reasons behind this theme. But only the main ones were listed. Do not let these things lead to bigger ones. Just get it over with the first time. Then you have nothing to really worry about. In this play they did not really do that. They made things harder than they really were. They should have just solved the issues in the beginning. It should not have escalated like it did. So that is what the theme of this paper is basically saying. Just do not let problems get bigger. Solve them the first time and be done with
it.
