I was very surprised to learn that my plot selection was the Crucible by Arthur Miller written in 1953. My mind went to some of the modern day issues we face in the twenty first century. What I realized, the story The Crucible support the notion of theatrical universality. The play was written in 1953 but the story took place in 1692 about people in Salem, Massachusetts. The main concept of theatrical universality is people in one culture that is different, can relate to another culture. The boundaries of time, space, or dissimilar culture does not hinder the understanding of the relationship of the theme. At the end of the thought, all people since the beginning of humans on earth have the same basic themes, needs, wants, and desires, and there lay the connection of universality in theatre.
Comparing the plot and the play, I was able to see a parallel to some very basic human emotions and dispositions such as unrequited love, deception, and lies. Once the actual story was revealed I was able to gather a myriad of human experiences and see that they are still relevant and prevalent to me in the twenty first century; to list a few, religious prosecution, adultery, deception and scams, mob mentality, love, mankind evilness towards one another, pride, and
