The thesis of this essay is in the closing statement “All these things have defined us and made us stand out. We should not change them. Then who would we be? We are the Crusaders of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and nothing less.” Here I express how I think the Crusader mascot should be kept, because it embodies and represents core values that we students at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor have.
Ethos is shown when I express that I too am a student, and understand how we identify with our current mascot. I also express how we can strive to be like a Crusader, standing up for what we believe in and fighting fervently for what is right. “Our goal as a Crusader is to reclaim and expand our personal spiritual realm and that of the student body, which has been eroded by apathy, self-absorption, political correctness, pandering to emotional issues of rejection, inability to learn from correction, and other character deficiencies.” …show more content…
Empathy is shown towards the affected Muslims, but also towards the thousands of Crusaders who were blindly led to believe that what they were doing was the only way to earn a place in Heaven, therefore justifying their violent wrongdoings. The focus is on their original intentions, which were good because they were trying to regain land for Christ. “As we aim to represent the image of Christ however, there will be times when the truth of His word will not always sound appealing, but it will always remain necessary. The Crusades were intended for good, but as humanity tends to do, they were altered from their course because of violent
