The Cultural Characteristics Of Gray Wolf
The gray wolf has been a source of both fear and respect, inspiring a rich cultural history. In the general appearance, theas species resembles a big domestic dog. They have long legs, larg feet, and a narrower chest and a straight furry tail. The fur is thick, and with a outer layer composed of coarse hairs, below which a soft undercoat is present. The coat undergoes an annual molt in late spring, with a short coat of fur growing simultaneously. Which keeps on coming to be a winter coat in autumn and winter.

One of many reasons the B.C wolf cull should continue is because the caribou population is intensely decreasing and wolves are the cause. The wolf population is not endangered and do not have predators which will affect the food chain negatively. In this case, shortening the wolf species would not impact their population greatly. For instance, in B.C 15 of 31 caribou herds are threatened (Government of B.C, no date) and the number will quickly increase if nothing is done to the wolves. If no action is taken place in order to save the caribou, it will be too late and canadas _______animal will soon be extinct. This important because having a steady, controlled cull saves both species from over exploitation and endangerment.…

“St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves” by Karen Russell is a short story about a “pack” of girls raised by werewolves that are severely lycanthropic. Their parents send them to a home called St. Lucy’s run by Jesuit nuns that’s goal is to eradicate all traces of wolf culture and behavior from the girls, and assimilate them into human culture. To help them, the nuns have a handbook called “The Jesuit Handbook on Lycanthropic Culture Shock”. The handbook divides each part of the “packs” development into human culture into 5 stages. The main character, Claudette, develops a lot throughout each of the 5 stages, but still has some struggles. By the end of the story, Claudette is very close to fully adapting, but still has some wolf like tendencies.…

Throughout the short story, “St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves” by Karen Russell, Claudette displays how she has not fully adapted to human society and reverts back to her origin of the wolf. When Claudette gets anxious, there were numerous times when she turns to wolf behavior for comfort. She narrows her eyes at Kyle and flattens her ears, (Russell 242) and when the time comes to do Sausalito, Claudette panics and can only remember how to the “pump and pump” (Russell, 243). It is nonetheless closely related enough to smaller Canis species, such as the eastern wolf, coyote and golden jackal to produce fertile hybrids. Its closest relative is the domestic dog, with which it shared a common European ancestor which likely diverged 40,000 years ago. It is the only species of Canis to have a range encompassing both the Old and New Worlds, and originated in Eurasia during the Pleistocene, colonizing North America on at least three separate occasions during the Rancholabrean. It is a social animal, travelling in nuclear families consisting of a mated pair, accompanied by the pair's adult offspring. The gray wolf is typically an apex predator throughout its range, with only humans and tigers posing a serious threat to it. It feeds primarily on large ungulates, though it also eats smaller animals, livestock, carrion, and…
