The Dark Life Review Kat Falls was inspired to write Dark Life because her son was reading about the ocean a lot. Dark Life is book written by Kat Falls. Ty lives in an underwater experimental homestead. Then a topsider named Gemma went subsea to look for her missing brother who is lost. Whenever Ty and Gemma meet they team up to find Gemma’s brother, but they also have the outlaws to deal with. Students should read this book because it has a nonfiction connection to submarines and a theme of people should be wary of others To begin, Dark Life mentions submarines like the ones the military use, but the characters in Dark Life use them for transportation. In the novel, the author states “tilting the manta into a nosedive, I flicked on the head beams, only to have the light reflect off metal. A sub!” (Falls 2 ). The nonfiction quote explains that our military uses submarines. The novel quote connects to the nonfiction quote because the character was using, and saw a submarine. Next, the theme in Dark Life is people should be careful of others.
The novel states “‘One: The commonwealth is halting all shipments to the settlement until the Seablite Gang is caught’. No one said anything: the announcement was not a surprise. Everyone knew the government had lost a lot of money on stolen cargo.” (Falls 47). This quotation proves that the characters need to be careful of the outlaws, so they can catch them and not get hurt. On page 70, the author states “‘outlaws’ he choked out. Fear hit me like a one-two punch. ‘At your homestead?’ ‘ they knocked out Pops.’ Tears filled Hewitt's eyes.” This quotation explains that the characters were hurt because they were not wary and when Ty left to go help Hewitt's family. “‘ Outlaws.’ I yanked open the greenhouse door and we ran for the stairs only to skid to a stop in the center of the wet room as the shadow glided by another window- this time close close enough to blot out all else. Faster and faster , the Specter circled”(Falls 212). In this quote the characters were wary because they always watched while they were in the wet room and while running to
safety.
