II. Main Points:
A. Evolutionarily speaking, it makes more sense for males to pursue short-term mating as opposed to females. Males only really have to concern themselves with passing on their genes, while females, on the other hand, have to worry about a myriad of different things such as injuries, diseases, possible pregnancy, and resultant child care.
B. The Dark Triad personality is a collection of traits that some men have acquired through evolution in response to problems securing mates/passing on genes. The Dark Triad consists of three traits: Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy.
C. Women find men with the Dark Triad personality attractive. Also, men who possess the Dark Triad personality tend to be more sexually successful than men who don’t.
D. The study was sound, but it must be repeated with larger and more diverse sample size in order to really show or prove anything. The data that this study derived its findings from was taken from a group of females that were roughly all the same age, and from the same …show more content…
A good deal of time was spent going over what each trait in the Dark Triad correlates with. It was shown that narcissists were less likely to remain monogamous (Campbell & Foster, 2002; Campbell, Foster, & Finkel, 2002). Machiavellians reportedly had more sexual partners, and were more inclined to sexually coerce their partners (McHosky, 2001b). And psychopaths were shown to be sexually exploitative and deceitful (Paulhus & Williams, 2002). Reading through all of those findings, I couldn’t help but wonder if personality types on the opposite end of the spectrum have better luck finding and maintaining lasting monogamous
