Bullying and “The Darkness of Man’s Heart” unit Final Assessment
Do you think every human has a little evil in them? Some people choose to use this part of them, some people never do, this is called bullying. Bullying is when an aggressive encounter, including two school aged children, involving an imbalance of power occurs. This has been occurring more often due to technology which also brings up an online bullying issue.
Some people may agree that bullying is part of human nature. You also might say that everyone has the power to hurt another at any moment. Bullying has been occurring since the beginning of time. For example, there have been wars all around the world. But, in the book “Lord Of the Flies”

In the documentary, a boy named Alex who had been bullied, said that “They [pushed him] so far that[he wanted] to become the bully ”(Bully). This shows that because Alex was exposed to this violent and cruel behavior so often, he almost wanted to become a bully as well. Dr. Tonja R. Nansel and colleagues at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development did a nationwide experiment which included “15,686 students in sixth through tenth grade in public and private schools”. They found out that children who bully and that children who are bullied are “more likely to engage in violent behaviors” rather than kids who have nothing to do with bullying. All their research has proved that “Bullies” “are not born, they are made”(Brody).When you go to school in the twenty first century, you don’t only get bullied at school, but at home too. This is because as long as you have a laptop or cellphone on you, the bullies can still reach you. This type of bullying is called cyber bullying. Cyberbullying is when you use cell phones, instant messaging, e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites to harass, threaten or intimidate someone. This shows that bullying and war are definitely not nature, but nurture. Bullies are nurtured not nature. Even though some may say that bullies are born and that some people are just born mean, I say that bullies are made and that they only need one thing to trigger their bully side.
