Thomas Jefferson was a really hard working man and did a lot of things in his life. He has a really interesting life from childhood to death. Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743 in Virginia. They usually called him Tall Tom because he was 6’2”.Jefferson grew up on a wealthy family farm with six sisters and three brothers. Jefferson went to college at William and Mary in Virginia. Before he came president he had a number of jobs he was a lawyer, he was a farmer, and he was a member of Virginia Legislature. He is pictured on U.S nickels. It was starting being built on December 15, 1938 and it was finished November 15, 1939. The memorial is shaped like the Pantheon. The inspiration of this memorial was the Pantheon in Rome and the Rotunda at the University of Virginia. In the middle of the memorial there is a 19 foot bronze of Jefferson, it shines bright and draws attention. The bronze statue weighs 10,000 pounds. The Jefferson Memorial is on 18 acres of land. It is on the south side of the White House, and the Washington Monument. Jefferson also designed his own home named the Monticello. It was built in Charlottesville,

It is not the easiest memorial to get in but there is routes.The outer stone work of the memorial is Vermont Imperial Danby marble. The white interior walls are Georgia marble. The memorial was being built during world war II, that was a really tough time so they creators didn't have all the materials right away. The original statue of him was made of plaster and bronze paint. This was because all the real bronze was used for the weapons in the war. After the war was over in 1945 bronze was available for the permanent statue now. There are 26 pillars that is how many states existed during the time of Jefferson’s death. The memorial was dedicated on the 200th anniversary of Jefferson’s birth.

This is when you add all the marble and bronze together. Jefferson memorial is ranked 4th on the America’s architecture list, that is amazing. Thomas Jefferson was also the first secretary of state. Along with being the president he was also the second vice president. Thomas Jefferson was a founding father along with John Adams. The memorial looks the way it does because Jefferson was a really important man. He has helped out our country so much. The memorial has a bronze statue in the middle which is him. Around it, it has different speeches and sayings that he came up with. It is white because it symbolizes goodness. The memorial is dome shaped at the top and it has perfect circular steps. It is a really beautiful place. The best time to go visit it is in the spring when the cherry blossoms are just starting to bloom. The trees were presented as a gift from the city of Tokyo to the city of Washington in 1912. Thomas Jefferson definitely deserves to be memorialized. Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence which says a lot. He used his own brain to write and say the Declaration of Independence. He has did so much for our country he is a person who needs to be thought about everyday and memorialized. The memorial is a great thing and it helps us remember him and who he was and what he did.
