The Devil and Tom Walker is a short story, written in 1824 by was Washington Irving. The story takes place in a swamp near Boston, in these swamps there lies a treasure buried by Kidd the Pirate, but guard by satan himself. After many years, Kidd The Pirate is finally caught and sentenced to be lynched for pirating, The devil sought out to sell the treasure at a high cost. Of course, the cost would be the buyers soul, which is a cost not too many people are willing to pay. Tom is a miserly man who has a wife who is more miserly than him, they fought and cheated each other regularly.
