The Different Levels Of The Prison System
Prison is an institution designed to host individuals who have committed all sought of crimes. Also the justice department labeled these folks as criminal. In the United States of American, the justice system spends a tremendous amount of money into the prison system by providing housing, food, healthcare and the basic necessities in order for the prisoners to survive.

The Prison system is divided into different levels depending on the crime committed determines the prison level in which a person is convicted to. These levels are the minimum, medium, close security, maximum security, supermax, and the federal. According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics expenditure for the prison system has sky rocketed since

The correctional system requires nearly one third of resources allocated to the criminal justice system. Yearly it costs over $64 billion to operate the correctional systems of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the federal government. This sum is only one percent of all government spending. Per prisoner to feed, house, clothe and supervise costs $20,000 not including indirect costs. The yearly expenditure exceeds $30,000. The other significant cost is construction. They divide the total construction cost of any one institution by the number of prisoners it houses to arrive at the cost per "bed." This cost is on average as low as $31,000 per year for a minimum security prisoner to as high as $80,000 for a maximum security prisoner.     The four types of prisons are federal, state, municipal, and military. A federal prison is operated and managed by the government. Federal prisons normally house inmates who have been convicted of a crime in violation of a federal statue as opposed to a state or local laws. A municipal prison is a high security prison. A military prison is a prison operated by the military. Military prisons are used to house prisoners of war, enemy combatants, those whose freedom is deemed a national security risk by the military or national authority and member of the military found guilty of a serious crime. A state prison is a facility operated by a state and used to house and rehabilitate criminals. There is both minimum and maximum security prisons which are divided based on the nature of the crime committed by inmates at the institution. A total institution is an enclosed facility separated from society and physically where the inhabitants share all aspects of their daily lives. Total institutions are small societies and evolve their own distinctive values and styles of life and pressure residents to fulfill rigidly prescribed behavioral roles. Some of these places include prisons, concentrated camps, mental hospital, seminaries, and other facilities in which individuals are cut off from society forcibly or willingly. Jails play an important role in the criminal justice system because it keeps offenders that committed a crime off the streets.     There are six different types of prisons; juvenile, minimum, medium and high security as well as Psychiatric and military types. Juvenile are for criminals under the age of 18 that commit a crime. The underage criminals are never locked up with the adults instead they are placed in a facility that is designed exclusively for juniors of the criminal acts. Medium security prisons are the standard facilities used to host most of the other criminals who have committed a higher crime. They have cage-style housing, armed guards, and a much more regimented daily routine than minimum security. High security are prisons for the more dangerous criminal such as murderers, they are more violent and dangerous due to this fact they have far more guards and less time for freedom, everyone is confined to their own cell and considered all high risk. Psychiatric criminals who are deemed to be mentally unfit or insane are sent to psychiatric prisons that are made to look like and operate like hospitals. Once there, the inmates or patients, receive psychiatric help for their mental disability. Psychiatric prisons are made and intended to try and help people with their disorder as opposed to just confining them as a means of punishment. Military prisons every branch of military has their own prison systems and facilities that are used specifically for military personnel who have committed a crime that affects national security or on other occasions house prisoners of war.
