The Diverse Nature of Psychology
As a modern science, psychology has quickly evolved into a distinct discipline. Psychology initially evolved from philosophy with Aristotle, Plato, as well as Descartes, among others. Psychology has progressed into various sub-disciplines as well as subtopics; however, the major concentration is the clinical study of individual and non-individual performance. The power of diversity in the area of psychology is incredible. Every sub-disciplines concentrates on a particular field of subject matter; giving fine points in its discipline while also playing a role to other sub-disciplines as well as other fields of humanities as well as science. Within the topic of psychology, diversity has provided evidence in the efficiency in diagnosis as well as treatment in scientific psychology, however, multiplied to various disciplines like geography, ecology, sociology, biology, architecture as well as economics. I/O psychology’s concentration is with regard to worker selection, appointment, enhancement and growth, as well as appraisal of the job performed. It also evaluates items like workers’ attitude, salary incentives, and the location of the job (Bucklin & Alvero, 2000), and deals with worker motivation, work satisfaction, worker behaviors as well as attitudes and organizations procedures and techniques (Campbell, 2002). I/O psychology as well as its subtopics can be implemented to a collection of other sub-disciplines in psychology like motivation, performance and ecological indicate a few. School psychology is a field in psychology that deals with the educational system, and it is put into place to assist and help with academic, emotional and social issues that children may have. School psychology’s main objective and goal is to collaborate with students, parents, and teachers in order to promote students with a better and healthy environment for learning by focusing on the children’s needs. It is important to focus on what limitations that a child may have in learning, and the way to determine this would be to perform an intelligence test. This test will help and assist a Psychologist and others recognize any issues such as (i.e., mental disability, or learning disability) and make the necessary recommendations for those students (APA, 2013).
The intelligence test founded in 1949 by David Wechsler is the WISC-III for children and is the most performed test (APA, 2013). Psychologists determine what form of teaching is most beneficial for the child when intelligence testing has been performed. Seeing that each individual is different and possess many different learning skills, it is probably best to get rid of the IQ testing.
Adults or children with learning disorders or disabilities such as ADHD, are not lazy or dumb, it is just that their brain is equipped differently from others. An individual with learning disabilities usually have problems with speaking, reasoning, writing, listening, math, and reading; and this does not mean that they have an issue with motivation or intelligence.
Therefore, individuals understand, hear, and see things different from other individuals; they process and input information differently. However, these individuals are rather successful and intelligent they just need to be taught in a way that is specifically designed for them (Learning Disabilities and Disorders, n.d.).
The diversity of the discipline and its sub-disciplines performs well with my diverse theoretical Not only does diversity assist with diagnosis and treatment in scientific psychology; it can assist in a collection of other areas like environmental, industrial/organizational, social, and cross-cultural psychology. The distinctness of every person, every neighborhood, geographical settings, areas of the country, as well as the areas across the world needs a selection of solutions for deciphering problems.
In conclusion, diversity in psychology is relevant to the improvement of psychology as an
entire area and improvement to other non-physiological areas like environmental
science,
geology, architecture, economics and commerce, learning, finances as well as management. Each
non-physiological area contributes to each other; uniting one philosophy is not the objective,
neither must it be. As long as the objective of understanding behavior and its causes, suggestions
and alterations exist, must carry on.
