The Dog Ate My Flash Drive Summary
Carolyn Segal wrote “The Dog Ate My Flash Drive, and Other Tales of Woe”. In this story the author presents us to various excuses that students have used when turning in late work. Segal uses her own experiences listing some of the reasons students have for not meeting deadlines. The author mentions several categories which are the family, the best friend, the evils of dorm life, the evils of technology and the totally bizarre. Segal has had different experiences dealing with students excuses considering the fact that she is an English teacher. This story was intendent to vent what instructors think about when it comes to students’ excuses for turning in late work. Some students do not have a filter and will come up the any excuse just to
get away with missing assignments. For example, one excuse was “There was and emergency at home, and I had to help my family.”(458) The authors’ thoughts were why anyone would turn to the most irresponsible student in times of trouble. This is a way to show how Segal thinks when students give excuses.
