When Buck arrives in Seattle he meets the man in the red sweater. He is cruel and violent towards Buck and with a fury begins to beat Buck with a club. In defense, Buck tries to attack the man in order for him to stop, but it is all in vain. Buck watched other dogs pass under the dominion of the man in the red sweater Buck might believe that man has more power than animals and therefore they deserve respect, but that does not keep away the fact of how violence affected him and is inner in him.His encounter with the the man in the red sweater teaches him about the law of the club. He learns that a man with a club is likely to be willing and able to force Buck to do his command. Buck also experiences Curly’s violent death, “But she lay there lip and lifeless torn to pieces...the scene often came back to Buck to trouble him in his sleep”(pg.15).Buck does not like violence but it is something that he simply had to experience. Buck is a skillful fighter that was not afraid to battle Splitz and risk his life. Killing Splitz made him become more wild because it introduced him that sometimes wild animals will have to use violence to gain their position in a pack or defend themselves.In Alaska Buck is put among other dogs, where he finds out about the law of the fang meaning whoever can fight will be able to enforce their will.This law means that the strong will control the weak.
