The Dog That Bit People Summary

In “The Dog That Bit People”, Mother blamed others for the Airedale’s actions. First, when Muggs gnawed the iceman, Mother blamed it on the iceman sputtering “If you didn’t think he would bite you, he wouldn’t.” Furthermore, when the police officer stopped by their house, Mother told him that it hadn't been Muggs’ fault but the fault of the people who were bitten claiming “When he starts for them, they scream and that excites him.” Even more, when the narrator himself got bit, his own Mother took Muggs’ side saying she did not know what possessed him. This clearly shows that mother would go to the extreme to stand up for the Airedale by placing the blame on the victims of Muggs’ violent actions. One of these victims, was her own flesh and blood,
