The Dynamic Character In Thank-You, Ma Am, By Langston Hughes
Throughout the short story "Thank-You, Ma'm" written by Langston Hughes, Roger is a dynamic character that grows from being cold and secluded to opening up and being grateful towards Mrs. Jones. In the beginning Roger is shown to be a delinquent when he attempts to steal Mrs. Jones bag, "...when a boy ran up behind her and tried to snatch her purse" 62. The author uses this event to show case that Roger makes poor choices. After being caught and forced to follow Mrs. Jones agains his will, Roger see's something in her which makes him want to gain her trust, "He did not trust the women not to trust him. His father’s name was James Nathaniel and his mother’s name was Carrie Mercer Langston Hughes. His parents separated not to long after he was born.
