With the economy being in the poor shape that some believe it is in we rely on these programs to make everyday life possible. Some regulations that are in place with programs such as these are free breakfast and lunch, community eligibility, and income based. With the free program children are approved if they are in foster care, homeless, live in a household receiving SNAP, FDPIR, and/or TANF benefits, or are in head start. The community eligibility allows schools with a high percent of low income children to provide these students with free lunch and breakfast. One requirement to this is the school must have 40% or more certified students in the free program. Last but not least the income based is based on the Federal Income Eligibility Guideline. (FRAC.org) to me it seems like they are trying to cover all students with these options. Health Needs
With the United States being considered an over-weight country the government came up with these programs to try and help make a healthier future for Americans. Studies conducted by the FRAC shows that children who utilize these programs are less likely to be overweight, have improved nutrition, eat more fruits, drink more milk, and consume a wider variety of foods. (FRAC.org) The Process
First to qualify for these programs you must fill out an application and be approved, but the government does have a few requirements in place to help. The first is breakfast and lunch must be offered at a reduced or no cost to children who are unable yon pay full cost without segregation or discrimination.
