The Effect of Divorce Have you ever considered a divorce? A lot of people tend to decide hastily about divorce. However, divorce can bring more serious problems than you think it can. If you divorce your spouse, it will probably lead to the following negative effects: financial problems, health problems, and childrearing problems. First of all, a divorce will likely cause financial problems. According to Amy Desai, JD (2001) reports, “ While some divorce proceedings are relatively inexpensive, the fees can sore. Each case will vary.” This statement implies that a divorce proceeding itself will likely lead an attack on your finances. For example, Amy Desai, JD (2001) said, “ You can get a divorce for under $10,000 per spouse in lawyer fee if you are lucky and if both the spouses and their lawyers are reasonable and fair. But you really can’t predict even that… Either side can pull all kinds of stuff in court that just makes both the lawyers waste time until one client runs our of money.”
In addition, you may experience serious economic problems if you cannot receive money from your spouse after a divorce. Amy Desai gives an example of a couple that divorced and had financial problems. In this particular case, like in many divorces, it was the wife who suffered more financial hardship. She became finically responsible for the upbringing of the children. Therefore, you have to consider carefully divorce because of financial losses. Secondly, if you get divorced, your physical condition will probably be worse than people who are married. For example, life expectancies for divorced men and women are significantly lower than for married people (“Effect of divorce” 2001). Lower life expectancy can be viewed in survival rates of cancer in divorce. In addition to physical problems, a divorce will likely cause mental problems, as well. Amy Desai, JD (2001) said, Men and women both suffer a decline in mental health following divorce, but researchers have found that women are more greatly affected.” As a consequence, a divorce will probably cause physical and mental problems. Finally, a divorce will probably result in childrearing problems. If you have financial problems and mental problems after a divorce, you cannot attend to your children. Because parents cannot attend to their children, the children may have a lot of stress. These effects will probably give them poor social skill, poor academic performance, or depression.
In addition, because of a parent’s divorce, the children will undergo many changes. These changes may result in stress in children. Jayna Solinger (1999) said that children may get tossed by mother and father from one house to another house. Also they may spend with their mother or father a limited time, and they may suffer from a sudden change in environment. In conclusion, you will probably suffer financial problems, health problems and childrearing problems as a result of a divorce. In other words, if you have these effects because of a divorce, you cannot live a happy life. I highly recommend that you should consider a divorce’s negative effects before you obtain a one.
