On the seventh of December in the year 1941, the American naval base was attacked by Japanese fighter planes. Following the death of over two-thousand American soldiers and sailors, Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war upon Japan. After decades of conflict with Japan the United States became another country to be officially involved in World War II. One of the main reasons for tension with the country of Japan is the contrasting styles of dealing with Japan’s neighbor country China, Which was in war with Japan since 1937. At the time of Pearl Harbor, American troops were not expecting an attack from Japan, let alone so close to home (History.com Staff par. 1-3). This major attack on United States soil was a very crucial part to World War II as it initially got the U.S. involved in the midst of the conflict.During an Interview with Scholastic, witnesses Hubert Gano and his wife Margaret Ellen Gano replayed the events that transpired. “ A very loud explosion rattled our windows.” “We rushed outside to see a string of airplanes in a shallow dive toward the ships at the end of our peninsula.” “We could see red anti-aircraft tracer shells floating up toward the lead aircraft.” “I could see the "Rising-Sun" emblem that decorated the side of the aircraft which identified them as Japanese.” over two years after Pearl Harbor occurred, the United States put a stop to World War II (History.com Staff par.…
The war on the pacific started on December 7th 1941 when the Japanese military attacked pearl harbor the reason on why they attacked pearl harbor was the American government put an oil embargo which it dropped Japan’s oil supply and import by 80%. The process of this made the Japanese look south for supplies, the attack at the base was to weaken the American navy and destroy their oil supply for their ship’s. The reason why America put up the embargo was to make Japan’s advance on China stop it was also made to try to avoid conflict with Japan so their wouldn’t be a war to happen. The attack on pearl was planned for a while the Japanese military got their top pilots to attack the base in Hawaii, the attack took place early in the morning on Sunday December 7th 1941. The attack was a victory for the Japanese military but at the price Isoroku…
In 1941 Japan, Germany, and Italy were in a war against the Allied powers and were about to draw the United States into the war. Japan knew that they would have to eliminate the US as an enemy at some point after the war,and they wanted to do this while they had Germany for help, so on December 7, 1941, Japan attacked the US at pearl harbor. This action brought the United States into the war and is a reason why the Allied powers won the war with the United States. Now Japan needed a few things to win this battle between them and the US. they needed to control the pacific ocean.…
It starts with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, China. The Japanese invade Manchuria on September 18th, 1931. China was in the middle of a depression (much like our own) so the Japanese quickly get a strong footing in Southern Manchuria. At this time, the United States is good friends with the Russians. It starts pissing off Russia that the Japanese are taking over China. If it pisses off the Russians, it pisses off us. Also, the Japanese invading China violated the Kellogg-Briand Pact of 1928 which renounced war as national policy. So, the United states tells Japan if they don't get out of China, we'll stop trading oil with them. Japan stays in China, so, naturally, we stop trading oil. Eventually, Japan is forced out of China, but not without a lasting grudge against us Americans. Of course they hate us after this, so when Pearl Harbor was left for an entire day with everyone on holiday, they bombed the Hell out of it. America was looking for a very good reason that everyone could agree on to join the war. FDR had been wanting to join the war all along, and when the Japanese bombed us 10 years later, it had everyone in such an uproar that no one would back down from the…
Pearl Harbor changed the United States forever. The Japanese forces deliberately attacked the United States at 7:55 A.M. on Sunday, December 7, 1941. The army base at Pearl Harbor was destroyed. On December 7, 1941 there was a surprise Military Strike against the United States by the Japanese Navy. 2,402 were killed that day; not including the Japanese, And 1,282 was left wounded. This attack came as a shock to the American people, which led directly to the U.S entry into World War II. Most of the people in this Era are not really educated about WHY they attack us. So here are the reasons, On September 1940, Before the Attack, The U.S placed an embargo on Japan by prohibiting exports of steel, scrap iron, and Aviation fuel to Japan, due to Japan’s takeover of northern French Indochina. Also, The Japanese assumed that the United States would eventually enter the war, and they wanted to keep…

Pearl Harbor was the first time the U.S. was invaded by another country. This had forever changed the history of America. Starting just before 8 a.m. Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan, and the Japanese were bombed by Japan, and the Japanese were able to destroy about 8 battleships, 20 American naval vessels, and 300+ airplanes. Pearl Harbor is an American naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii. The next day President Franklin D. Roosevelt did the right thing to ask Congress to declare war on Japan.. And they had approved with only one vote against it.…
The attack on Pearl Harbor began as part of Japan's larger plan to conquer Southeast Asia. The Japanese wanted to do this to secure raw materials and other natural resources that they lacked. Since America supplied more than half of Japan's supply of these materials Japan was reluctant to push the United States too far, but they also had intentions of getting control of its own sources of raw materials. The attack happened in the early morning of December 7,…
Pearl Harbor, named because of the abundance of pearls once found within its protected waters, is the largest natural harbor in the State of Hawaii and the number one visitor destination on Oahu. On December 7 of 1941, Japanese airplanes attacked the naval base of Pearl Harbor with a horrendous attack. With this, the 32nd president of the United States, president Franklin Delano Roosevelt, gave his famous speech. Shortly after this, the British and United States declared war on Japan. Not so long after, Germany declares war on the United States. The attack of Pearl Harbor is to be said as the starting mark of America into the war of World War II. Now technically, the war started earlier in about 1921-1922, when Adolf Hitler assumed control of the National Socialist German Workers, otherwise known as the Nazis. But the US was not involved until the Japanese suddenly…
In Pearl Harbor and the Coming of the Pacific War by Akira Iriye, the author explores the events and circumstances that ended in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, an American naval base. Iriye assembles a myriad of primary documents, such as proposals and imperial conferences, as well as essays that offer different perspectives of the Pacific War. Not only is the material in Pearl Harbor and the Coming of the Pacific War informative of the situation between Japan and the United States, but it also provides a global context that allows for the readers to interpret Pearl Harbor and the events leading up to it how they may. Ultimately, both Pearl Harbor and the subsequent Pacific War between Japan and the U.S. were unavoidable due to the fact that neither nation was willing to bow down to the demands of the other.…
On the morning of December 7th, 1941, while most Americans were sleeping, drinking coffee, reading the morning paper or attending church, thousands of the men who fight for their country were being killed. Due to a shocking attack on Pearl Harbor, a naval base near Honolulu Hawaii, there were 18 naval vessels that were sunk or heavily damaged, 188 planes that were destroyed and over 2,000 servicemen who were killed. (Perloff, Pearl Harbor: Hawaii Was Surprised; FDR Was Not). Trailing the gruesome attack executed by the Empire of Japan, the 32nd president of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, presented the “Pearl Harbor Speech” to a joint congressional session. While addressing congress about Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt…
The Japanese couldn't be trusted and therefore acted as a potential threat to the nation, something that the U.S could not push aside after the Pearl Harbor attack. The attack of Pearl Harbor forced the U.S to take the necessary measure to ensure the well being of the U.S. Many Americans believed that within those…
The attack on Pearl Harbor is an event in United States history that had a massive effect on the American people and the actions of the country. It is referred to as the event that directly caused the U.S. to get involved in World War II, and is arguably one of the biggest events in U.S. history for this reason. The attack resulted in thousands of unsuspecting American people injured and killed. These Americans were unprepared and unable to prevent the devastating attack from happening. However, many believe that president Roosevelt, on the other hand, could very well have prevented the attack, but chose to allow it instead. It is a conspiracy that many people have believed since the attack first occurred, and since then, the amount of belief…
