In 2003, a group of engineers set on a mission to prove to the world that people need not compromise to an electric car. Electric cars can be quicker, better and more fun than a normal petrol car. Today, Tesla makes not only electric cars but various other infinitely scalable clean energy generation and storage products. They believe that sooner the world shifts from fossil fuel for survival and aim for zero-emission future, better it will be for the world. (Tesla, 2018)

They currently have only 3 production variants,i.e. Model S, Model X and Model 3. They discontinued the Roadster in 2012. After a looking at multiple options, in 2010, Tesla took possession of the site New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc.(NUMMI) in Fremont, California and renamed it as the Tesla Factory. In 2013, Tesla opened a new assembly plant in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Till this point of time, Tesla was producing cars in the US and exporting all over the world. The Tilburg facility was used as the final assembly and distribution point for the Model S which were to be sold across Europe. This was one of their first production facility outside the US. They meanwhile were also opening showrooms and service centres across Europe to deliver the Model S. In 2014, Tesla leased a new plant in Lathrop, California to further enhance their production capabilities. In 2017, Tesla opened a Gigafactory in Storey County, Nevada, the U.S to mass produce the lithium-ion batteries for their cars. Another Gigafactory was opened in Buffalo, New York for producing photovoltaic cells for the Tesla subsidiary SolarCity. (Wu, 2016)
Tesla plans to enter India and various middle eastern markets soon. They are in discussions to open a Gigafactory in Europe, China and India.
