After watching and taking notes in the lecture the first movie that came to mind that I felt had many of the elements discussed was The Italian Job. The main elements I saw in this movie were, creative use of tension buildup and release through audio techniques and different movement and viewpoints with the camera.
Many points in the movie instrumental music was being used to set or create a mood of suspense while the group of “thieves” are in the middle or performing a heist. This starts very early in the film on the first heist, music of fast tempo and drums are being used while the men are being chased by police and other people on boats. The music used throughout the movie helps and boost your adrenaline and gets your
attention.
This movie has a lot of action and uses many different viewpoints and movements with the camera. Depth of focus was used in the movie to help and focus your attention onto the main things going on in the scene. During shots where there is a busy background with people the director blurred or distorted what was going on in the back so you would focus on the people and action in the foreground. Certain scenes in Venice and in the mountains, in the beginning of the film, the director has used tilt shots to focus high up on the landscape and scenery around the area and then tilt downward onto the actors. Panning shots and track shots were also used very often in the film, especially during car chasing scenes during the climax of the film. While driving down busy crowded LA streets the cameras are either riding along with the small mini coopers used in the film by tracks or they are attached to the car so you can feel like you are moving along with the cars. My favorite scenes in this film were definitely the ones were the director used track to follow the cars and make you it made you feel like you were a passenger along for the ride.
