In 1807, the Embargo Act made a large impact to the United States. In order to reduce the risk of a war, the Embargo act halted trade between the United States and Europe. Sadly, this Act hurt the United States more than it was intended to, causing a downfall in the economic market. Quickly realizing the impact it had it was repealed. Even though this was a major setback for our economic system, it was a valuable lesson learned. This relates to the theme Work, Exchange, and Technology because it brought to attention how important it is to have a trade relationship with our neighbors in order to succeed ourselves in the economic world. During the age of Jackson, Jackson believed in something referred to as agrarianism. This was the concept that the economy dwelt on agriculture and land ownership. With this in mind he made a strong stand in consuming as much land as possible, like the Louisiana Purchase. This purchase totaled to about $15 million. This not only doubled the size of the United States but it also gave control of the entire Mississippi River. By the dramatic increase this purchase had for the United States, it relates to the improvement in economic market under the theme of Work, Exchange, and Technology. It also allowed for more work opportunities since the new land that was acquired needed to be tendent to. During the first six weeks of the reading, America was beginning the journey to finding the way to make profit. This was the time when experimentation was done to figure out what was best for our economic system. Advancing in the reading, this time period was different.
