CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
I.1. Background of the Study
Taboo word is a social phenomenon. The use of taboo words nowadays seems not to be a taboo thing to be spoken; even now we learn kinds of taboo words in class, specifically when we are discussing on Sociolinguistics class. Taboo word is not only being an expression to show anger, but also to get mingles to certain society, included now we can see many movies that contain of taboo words through conversations inside with different purposes to be conveyed.
Taboo word is also expressed in many ways. Lately we have song lyrics that contain taboo words. It is also happened to movies, for example in “Bad Teacher” movie. “Bad Teacher” movie is one of western movies that contain of taboo words through dialogues.
The researcher is interested to do research on this movie because in daily life, it is not appropriate if a teacher speak taboo words in front of their students. What happen on this movie is the opposite. In this movie, the main character, Elizabeth Halsey, is speaking many taboo words in front of her students. She speaks taboo words in different time, place, and also situation. In this research, the researcher is going to do this research to understand the meaning of taboo words spoken by Elizabeth Halsey and find the purposes of it.
