The priest who was born in Husinec, Bohemia sometimes between 1369 and 1372 conflicted with the Roman Catholic teachings. First, among the errors he listed, he said that church members should only believe and obey God only which conflicted with Roman Catholic teachings that church members should believe and obey the Pope as he is the representative of God (Fudge, 2015). Huss teachings met a lot of opposition including the Pope who ordered him to stop teaching in 1405. Some of his teachings were also burned which created more tension. He also went against the people’s idea of selling the indulgences in Prague which later saw him run for his life. He was also excommunicated in 1412 due to insubordination (Fudge, 2015). We can, therefore, conclude that the major reason why Hus never succeeded in his work as Martin Luther did was because of the strategic opposition that he encountered during his time.
