According to Jasmine Gards, “Salvadorans made their own group marginalizing themselves as self-defense, so they can take care of each other and no one would try to intrude with them.” El Salvador is a very violent country and migrating to a new place with different language, culture, and system and also going through a war, made salvadorans feel excluded and they were even more prone to react aggressively to certain arguments. The abuse and discrimination were the reason of why salvadoran man were involved in gangs to protect their people. According to David Courtwright, “During the 40s and 50s tong members made money by extorting protection money from Chinese business ”(155). There were different
