The Fallacy Summary: The Fallacy Of Scare Tactic
The fallacy that I have chosen is Scare Tactic

Define: Using fear or a threat against another person in the attempts to get them to conform to your way of thinking or desired action.

Design:

Scenario 1: As a car salesman I would invoke a sense of fear or urgency in the couple by stating that this car has just come in on the lot and will not last the day. I would tell them that this specific used car and the way and which it was cared for is rare. I would go on to say that this car was just posted online today and I had already received many phone calls on the car. A car at this price is well below Kelley Blue Book with such low miles is truly a needle in a haystack. Without a deposit on the car, I cannot hold it and I just do not want to

I would tell her she was extremely lucky to have come to me today and that with her hard work and dedication we could clear her aura together. I would state that revitalizing her health would require some expensive weekly aura treatments, but that you cannot put a price on good health!

Scenario 3: Using Scare tactic I would advise the political leader searching for advice to speak with the other leader about the issues on his property. I would tell him to make mention to the other political leader that the property in question was a former war site and that there were many land mines in the area. I would advise him that giving up a bit of that property would make his land more valuable because no other party would want to purchase that land with active mines. By giving up a bit of that land, you would be doing him a favor and protecting his future property

Scenario 6: As a politician I would state to Alaskans that our independence from the Middle East was important. If we were to drill for petroleum in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge the need for political ties in the Middle East purely for the sake of oil would no longer be necessary. By drilling in Alaska, our fear or terrorism and our safety in the United States would be achieved. We could bring our soldiers home and protect our countries borders with no other need for the Middle East and what it offered. Financially our petroleum prices would decrease by drilling within our own country.

Scenario 7: As a thirteen-year-old I would tell my parents that I needed a cell phone for safety. I would state to them that if I had a phone they would be able to get in touch with me at all times. Also with the GPS of the phone they could always rest assure that I was where I was supposed to be at the designated time. If for any reason plans changed or something came up at work for them they could easily text me and we could decide all alternate plans. If I had a cell phone we could all feel more at ease and communication would be simple!

Fyodor Dostoevsky’s quote, “…fear is simply the consequence of every lie”, illustrates a feeling one gets when one is untruthful. When one lies, fear fully takes them over because they are unsure of what the outcome will be of their lie. They will be filled with fear and anxiety waiting to see how their action of being untruthful affects their environment and their life. From my experience of literature, I can comfortably agree with this idea. People who lie will experience some form of regret and develop anxiety from the fear that builds up. Many different novels illustrate this idea, including To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.…

According to Fyodor Dostoevsky, “fear is simply the consequence of ever lie”. This means being frightened is usually the result of being dishonest. I agree with this quotation. To distract an infant, often enough dangling keys will work. Distractions, no matter what shape or form, divert people’s attention. In certain situations, diversions are used to blind or mask the real issue. This is often found in politics and commercials. Bruce N. Waller defines irrelevant reason fallacy when, “the reasons given in support of a conclusion are irrelevant to the truth or falsity of the conclusion. The reason given may be true, they may be important in other contexts… but they have no bearing on the question at issue…” (Waller). Irrelevant Reason Fallacy is also known as The Red Herring Fallacy (Waller).…

Thirdly, with cell phones alone kids are able to get a hold of their parents or the authorities very quickly. In case of emergency kids can now talk to someone they need without being at home or a public place. I have had my own experience where I was out of the city limits and was in a jeep accident. Some friends and I needed to get some help and were able to call our parents for help. We told them what happened and where and they were able to come help us. Without the technology of today, our parents would not have been able to get help so…

We were on our way into Manhattan for our monthly shopping trip to Wal-Mart. I was riding in the backseat as always, being the youngest. My oldest sister, Nicole, was in a state of the utmost euphoria, because today was the day she got her first cellphone. My parents made her a promise that if she was getting good grades they would buy her a cellphone her freshman year of high school. She would be the first one of her friends to get one, and she was ready to brag about it; however, my parents had some stipulations. The phone would stay at home during the school day as not to tempt her to text in class, the phone would not be used during family activities or dinner, and the phone would stay off until homework was complete. Nicole reluctantly agreed to all the restrictions and she picked out the prized phone. Unlike then, today the stipulations set by my parents are obsolete. All of the rules have become commonplace in society and are accepted by the majority of the nation. Cellphones have piloted society into a fallacy leading our youth into problems with school, safety, and communication, which has the potential to destroy personal relationships and etiquette in modern society.…
