She describes the politics of Heaven and the hierarchy between the paranormal beings that populate the novels. She fleshes out the characters to bring out their softer side as a mirror to the slightly evil, cold and dangerous nature particularly of the angels of death. Even as the heroes are strong men that are not immune to selfish pleasures and a little bit of vanity they do not fall for these but rather for justice. The heroine is also a well-rounded character who grows over the course of the series to make for a determined and full of spunk character. It makes for interesting reading to learn that the heroine loves freedom more than anything though they are not above deception to achieve their end goal. Cynthia keeps the reader guessing on just what her characters are going to do next, even as the characters grow and evolve to complement each other. The romance and passion is sizzling with the constant struggle between the fallen angels and the tension and passion between the half succubus heroine, Seline. The author makes for some surprising endings as the novels end in explosive twists to leave the reader in

I am confused by the fact that Cinder chose to go to Europe in search for a woman instead of going to Dr. Erland. Another question I thought of while reading the book was, why would Scarlet trust a man who used to work with kidnappers, he could be lying to her. This book reminds me of Little Red Riding Hood as they both have similar characters, in both books there is a little girl, a wolf and a grandmother. I love how Meyer’s books are so similar to classic fairy tales but yet they are so different. Myer writes this book in the future where an emperor rules the whole world. A question I have for the Mrs. Meyer is, what made her think of changing the government from a democratic government to a monarchy. Overall I love this book and I can’t wait to finish it. I just hope it isn’t a cliffhanger like the previous book,…

In a critical essay, “Pushed to Survival”, about Sapphire’s Push, Paula L. Woods explores the impact that the novel will leave on the readers. One of her first comments was, “The opening line of Sapphire’s first novel hits the reader like a Mack truck, and it clearly signals that the literary ride ahead won’t be in your father’s Oldsmobile” (Woods 86) I find this interesting because Woods explains how right from the first sentence you’re captivated, you don’t have time to get bored and to me that’s a very important detail that many books lack. Woods later in her criticism adds, “…Sapphire gives the fictional Precious something that surveys and case studies do not-a mind, heart and a ferocious rage to survive that ignite the book and make it strangely compelling for all of the horror Precious relieves in the telling” (Woods 87) This comment is very interesting because it describes how the book has life, and how it’s not like any other book, and that’s what many readers like I love about it. Woods also includes, “Astute readers will dram parallels between Precious’s emerging identity and language skills and those of Celie in Alice Walker’s The Color Purple” (Woods 88) In my opinion this quote is important because Push is being compared to a very powerful and well known book that changed and impacted many lives. The Color Purple like Push is trying to open the eyes of their readers and let them see the bigger picture behind the story that is actually being told.…
