The Fantasticks is the longest running musical in the history of musicals, but I have never heard of it before until a week ago. The musical The Fantasticks, to me personally was a different eye opening theatrical experience. It was not boring as I had expected it to be because I though it will be only singing from beginning to the end without the actors saying an actual word. There were things that I found confusing, but very interesting in its own unique way. The actors make sure that the audience was aware of what was going on in terms of the exposition of the play when they came out singing to the audience about what the play was about in the time in which life was tender and warm, and letting the audience know the transitions of scenes. The actors did an excellent job in their roles, playing each scene with creativity the captures me as an audience. I liked all the characters, but my two favorites were Mortimer played by Darren McElroy and his partner Henry played by Terry Vandivort. Their scene was just breathtaking and full of laughter. From the moment they curled into the stage from the big box that was like an entrance, the two characters released the tension that I had about the play of being another vision of tragedy love “Romeo and Juliet.” My favorite part of the play was the fight scene when El Gallo, Henry, and Mortimer pretended to abduct Luisa under the moonlight and Matt fought them off; it was interesting to me because the scene was too dramatic in the sense that the three abductors die funnily reminding me of the Peter and Mr. Chicken from “The Family Guy”.
