This is evident in this quote from the farmer talking about the bride “One night, in the Fall, she runned away,"Out 'mong the sheep, her be," they said,'Should properly have been abed; But sure enough she wasn't there Lying awake with her wide brown stare. So over seven-acre field and up-along across the down We chased her, flying like a hare Before our lanterns.” The literary element used in the quote is simile because the farmer is comparing the bride to a hare or rabbit because she’s running very fast trying to escape the males. Also, One night the farmers bride left her bed during the night and ran through the town. Once the farmer and the group of men who were helping him cought the farmers wife they brought her back to the house and locked her up in order to protect her since she was acting mad getting out of bed when she was supposed to be sleeping. The bride was married very young which the farmer points out himself but during the harvest time not much time can be spent on finding a wife since the farmer feels like the time to find a wife and be married will soon be past. The farmer may have approached it wrong but he locked her up in order to protect his wife and keep her safe because he loves her. Now we’ll explore more about the bride …show more content…
The brides own husband has barely ever heard her speak himself. The bride is exactly like other brides because she cleans just as well and is happy with the animals around her until men got too close then she turned back into the scared shy bride. The farmer explainedThis quote is from the farmer talking about the bride ”She does the work about the house As well as most, but like a mouse: Happy enough to chat and play With birds and rabbits and such as they, So long as men-folk stay away. "Not near, not near!" her eyes beseech When one of us comes within reach. The women say that beasts in stall Look round like children at her call. I've hardly heard her speak at all.” The literary element is a metaphor because, the farmer is comparing his wife’s personality near animals to a mouse’s personality. However, Women say that when the bride is near a scary animal in a cage they act like children when they hear the bride. The bride is fine with anything other than men because she was so young to be married and become involved in what married couples become involved

In both The Miller’s Tale and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight there are a lot of similarities among many of the characters, and in a way both stories share the ability to teach us some very important life lesions. For example the way Absolom and Sir Gawain over react in times when they didn’t need to. There are also a lot of similarities between The Lady of the Castle and Alison with the way they handled having another man in their house and in this essay I will break down the two stories and tell you why I believe that.…

Next, Steinbeck presents her as having “full, rouged lips and wide spaced eyes, heavily made up.” As well as wearing “…a cotton house dress and red mules” and both the heavy make up and flattering outfit make her incongruous to the nature of a manual labour working ranch and her well-cared for appearance also suggests that she doesn’t want to be there and longs for a more luxurious lifestyle – where it would be more appropriate. On the other hand, one could feel sympathy toward her for having to go to all this effort to gain attention from other males seen as her own husband isn’t interested and as the make-up is used to cover up, it is clear that she isn’t confident…

All of this then progresses into the third stanza. He sees a “yellow hare” but one is left to consider whether this in itself, is a metaphor for something else. Is it a real animal coming up from the ground he is running and being startled, or does he consider the soldier, or even the reader, in this thinking state, to be that yellow, cowardly hare. Gwen Harwood’s work frequently focuses on woman being demoralised by society’s practices that reduce her to a lesser being. A common worldwide value that Harwood rejects as the normality in life with her poems. Harwood battles against the traditions that she believes support this downgrading by continually returning to the issue. Due to Harwood’s existence in a time where women of Australia still fought to vote and for a pay check to match a man’s, Harwood too displays her support. “The Lions Bride” is centred on the subject of marriage and entails the ugliness of the situations that are specific to women. This remains relevant to the modern world because of the ongoing struggle for equality. By using a wedding as a platform to highlight societies imposed traditions on females she seeks to shock the conventional expectations by demonising the widely romantisied event. Harwood extends this and questions treatment of women in the world before any vows are made.…
