True love, can be a fantasy come true or you worst nightmare in my perspective, for love is a strong word and its used to frequently, but in the three movies I have observed you find yourself truly believing in love and in my opinion, True love is out there, and if your lucky you will meet the right person, the man or woman of your dreams. The three movies I picked are Shakespearean plays, Romeo and Juliet, the modern movie made in 1996, Othello which is also a known classic, tragic love story, where two people truly loved each other and tired to make it work, but had many obstacles to overcome, with family and race.…

I often say that although we, African Americans, have come a long way in America’s society, it sometimes feels like our race has not progressed but set ourselves back. Percy Julian’s story is one of many stories that depicted the struggle that blacks had to go through in his time to truly succeed in a world that viewed him as inferior. Before viewing the documentary, Forgotten Genius, I had never heard of Percy Lavon Julian. However, I feel grateful to have witnessed his inspiring story. He has impacted my life by being a part in paving the way for black excellence, his contributions to science, and by serving as an example of how to persevere.…
The history of the right to bear arms, this has been an American tradition since colonist set foot on North American soil. Mass murders have been cause by guns does this mean we should only allow our military to have guns? I believe in the constitution we have the right to bear arms. It was written in the constitution for a reason. Without guns it makes our country weak. I’m not talking about just our military having them I’m talking about citizens not being able to have guns.…

Over this period of time Cristler reflected on his life and the various things that contributed to him being overweight. In order to drop this weight Cristler began to go around the city and take jogs in the park, he had a doctor that prescribed him the weight loss drug Meridia, he and his wife began to cook healthy food, and he had access to tons of information. In “Fat Land”, Cristler says that…
In his book The Way of the World: the Bildungsroman in European Culture, Franco Moretti describes the transition from stable, traditional societies, to more sporadic modern societies as a "problem". The "problem" itself refers to the dissolution of apprenticeships between generations, and as a result, the movement towards a future more uncertain but also more free. The unidentified narrator of The Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison, is a prime example of an individual caught in the transitional phase of Moretti's two societies. Ellison's narrator finds himself torn away and thrown back into multiple apprenticeships, all while being haunted by his grandfather's…
The Andy Griffith show was a situational family comedy created by Sheldon Leonard and Aaron Ruben that ran from 1960-1968. The show was quite popular and successful in its eight years of air time. Episode one of season one was written by Charles Stewart and Jack Elinson. The Andy Griffith Show portrayed many different themes in the very first episode. Some themes demonstrated focused on loss, acceptance, and non-traditional family, embracing the future, childhood honesty, loyalty, and fear of change. The main theme that really stuck out to me was the fear of change. In my eyes, it is what supported the purpose of the whole episode and immediately gave viewers something to relate to.…
Classical conditioning has been impacted by many studies. The Little Albert experiment which was done by Watson and Rayner in 1920 showed empirical evidence of classical conditioning in humans. Although this case study is widely disputed in it’s methods, it added a world of knowledge to the field of psychology. This was a huge breakthrough for behavioral studies. Up until this time it was shown that classical conditioning was possible in dogs but there wasn’t any research on if it would work for humans as well. Research on classical conditioning can apply to many different areas including prejudices, phobias, paraphilias, drug addictions, and many more (Mary Baldwin College,…
