This is important because Max’s actions demonstrate that the way he chooses to handle difficult situations causes his dependability to waver, which weakens their trust and overall friendship. To compare, within Hazel and Augustus’ relationship, neither character’s reliability and dependability falter when tough circumstances arise. Rather, when they face hardships, their dependability and support remains strong and brings them closer. When Augustus reveals to Hazel the heartbreaking news that the cancer has returned, and it has spread throughout his entire body, instead of letting fear and uncertainty control her, Hazel remains supportive and makes it known that she will forever stand by him. Hazel demonstrates her dependability to Augustus during a conversation they have. Augustus compares his life to a roller coaster and explains how from that point on, it is only going up. Hazel told Augustus about how death is separating her from her family and she’s scared to talk about death, since every time they discuss about the topic of death, her parents seem to be extremely worried and gloomy. “I could feel everyone watching us, wondering what was wrong with us, and whether it would kill us, and how heroic my mom must be, and everything else. That was the worst part about having cancer, sometimes: The physical evidence of disease separates you from other people.” (Grace 2014 – Page 144). This quotes explains hazels fear of death because she states about how she can feel everyone wondering about her, caring for her, specially her parents and since she doesn’t want anyone to be close to her, she’s getting separated from everyone. She doesn’t have a way out of this problem. For her, that’s the worst part about having cancer, and how her parents would think she’s depressed but in reality she is not. By a physical evidence, hazel means that her parents and her other relatives believe that she’s in depression and that starts separating her from them because she likes to be left…

Trust sometimes helps people strengthen themselves to be able to go through tough times in life. John Greene proves so in his book, The Fault in Our Stars. Hazel and Augustus are able to build a strong relationship. The author uses characterization in order to build trust between the two characters. Since Hazel was able to put her faith in Augustus, her character became stronger and started to have more confidence in herself. Augustus, a philosophical teenager, helps Hazel live her life in the limited time that she has although he, himself was dying. Both characters became stronger and were able to live their life as much as they could because of how they made each other feel. Augustus made sure Hazel never looked down on herself. When it was time for Augustus to go, Hazel was strong enough to give him a proper good-bye.…
