The Feasibility of Beam
Metropolitan Hospital has decided to investigate the possibility of acquiring BEAM technology for brain imaging. This equipment will significantly improve the physician’s ability to locate abnormalities of the brain. Because reimbursement is uncertain and major expenditures involved, the governing body would like to explore the options of buying, leasing, or sharing County Hospital’s recently purchased BEAM machine. Physicians think that BEAM is critical to their practices and would prefer to keep patients at Metropolitan, thus increasing their competitive advantage and expanding their scope.
Final Reporting
The committee’s final report to the GB should include an appropriate assessment of 2: * Financial feasibility * Cost effectiveness * Operating costs * Availability of trained technical staff and support services * Expert physicians * Life Span * Safety and efficacy * Impact on patients and community * Risks and legal liabilities * Potential social, ethical, political effects * How to monitor after purchase performance
It is important that the report entails how the assessment criterion applies to the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
Assessment
The proposed recommendation is for Metropolitan to lease BEAM technology. Doing so will allow sizable tax savings, effective balance sheet management, improved asset management, and expected cash flow while giving the organization a competitive edge.

BEAM | Advantages | Disadvantages | Buy | 1. You own it 2. Presents an image of growth 3. Organization maintains high level of control 4. Stabilizes referral base 5. Expands services 6. Tax incentives 7. Cheaper in the long run | 1. Availability of capital 2. High start-up costs 3. Reimbursement issues | Lease | 1. Option of ownership at the end of term 2. Lower start-up costs 3. Tax deductible monthly expense1 4. Revenue generated should greatly exceed

This was chosen because the piece of equipment has such a very short amount of useful life years, and is rather expensive. While the technology level is very high, the technology for this certain piece of equipment is projected to change every few years, and there is only a few years of useful life remaining on the operating lease. The organization needs to be careful of investing large amounts of money on equipment that is going to need to be replaced often. Also, with a lease/rental on this “short-lived” piece of equipment, the organization is more apt to replace it on time, ensuring it always remains within new technology…

Grandmother Fa, Dr. Aaron Glassman, and Harry Sanborn are similar in two noteworthy ways. The first way is that they are all considered to be elders in their respective fictional universes. The second way is that they are all portrayed to be wise and highly respected by the people in their lives - both largely due to their ages. The representation of these characters as being revered and full of wisdom demonstrates the tendency of the media to stereotypically portray elders, whether in a positive or negative way. This propensity can promote prejudicial attitudes towards older adults.…

The main suspects at this time are Ben Hill, Michelle Shelton, Candie Harris, Sam MacCarty, and Phil Ackers. The red flags in this case deal primarily with a lack in segregation of duties. These suspects all juggle multiple roles, some of which are not listed in their job description. Some of these suspects actively seek out additional responsibilities and place themselves in roles where they probably do not belong. Further rationalization for choosing these suspects is outlined below.…

    The Beam Splitter
