Acknowledgements
I would like to express my gratitude to all my colleagues and my course coordinator Mr Atul Raturi for the guidance and support in the completion of this project. My most sincere thanks goes to the Principal Education Officer Suva, Mrs Arieta Yavoli, and a former Principal of Koro High School for releasing the details about the school. Moreover, my sincere thanks to Mr Tushal of Clay Energy for releasing the pricing quotes for various components used in this PV system design.
Aim
To design an economical standalone PV system for the Koro High School located in the Koro Islands.
Objectives
The objective of this research is to design a stand-alone PV system for the Koro High School using computer software HOMER and carry out its feasibility study by determining the following: the cost of energy the net present cost the capacity shortage the systematic design economical analysis the payback period
Abstract
This report presents the feasibility study of a possible stand-alone PV system design for the Koro High School. A suitable design for the stand-alone PV system was found through modeling of various stand-alone PV systems and through analysis of their economical and technical results. The HOMER 2.68 beta simulation software was used to stimulate the data for various components. The solar radiation data for the Koro Island was gathered from the NASA website.
The life time for the proposed stand-alone PV system was considered to be 20 years with a 6 % discount rate.
