The effect of women in politics meant they could enact change themselves and they were able to have a voice in government. Changes like this are what lead to so many of the benefits women take for granted today. Some of these benefits include, but are not limited to; the right to vote, property rights, the Title IX Amendment, the Equal Rights Amendment, etc. Not to mention, once women were able to move into the workforce and better provide for themselves financially they had more power. The feminist movement in America is why women are, more or less, seen as equal in society today, but there were some issues as well. Some women opposed the feminist movement due to the assumption that to be a feminist meant to reject feminine roles and hate men. This was not, and is not the goal of feminism. Some critics also argue that feminism wishes for women to be superior to men and that the movement ignores men’s issues. Although it may be true that some individuals who label themselves as feminists use rhetoric similar to this, this is largely an extreme minority view. In today’s modern world where women in the U.S. are assumed to be equal to men there is the idea that the feminist movement is no longer needed. This idea leads to the dismissal of feminism despite the sexist attitude that still dominates many areas of life. The movement has changed to adapt to addressing the less obvious forms of sexism in everyday life, but it also addresses large issues like abortion, sexual assault, workplace discrimination, etc. A large part of the feminist movement has changed to spread information through social media in order to educate more individuals about its goals.
